The 20th century brought us a lot of great music: in every decade and in all styles and in many different languages. Unfortunately a lot of this great music has already been forgotten. And as the years go by the same could happen to a lot of songs who nowadays still remain well known.
This website is dedicated to all the great music which was made in the 20th century. There is also a weekly radio program you can listen to - every Thursday between 7 and 9 pm CET -
on webradio
Apollo.
Throughout 2017 we'll be searching for the greatest hits of the 20th century. Feel free to join
nipper.be and friends in their search.
And why is this site called Nipper? Nipper is the name of the dog in the 1898 painting of Francis Barraud portraying a dog who listens intensively to the voice of his master coming out of the horn of the gramophone player.
This painting has become the most prominent logo in all of the music industry: in the United States on the records of RCA-Victor, in Europe on His Master's Voice and in Japan as JVC. Nipper was present in music throughout the whole of the 20th century. From 1900 till the end of the 40's on 78 RPM-records, since then on vinyl records on 33 RPM and 45 RPM and on cd's since the mid 80's.
nipper.be wants to be a tribute to all the great music made in the 20th century.
